The WIT team recently concluded the company’s first-ever in-person summit, bringing 21 of the company’s 23 full-time employees together in Orlando from Dec. 5-8. We are chronicling all of the fun activities and new connections made with a series of posts featuring each day of the trip. Read more about Day 2 here.
Tuesday, Dec. 5
On Tuesday afternoon the WIT team assembled in Orlando from all over the country, flying in from California, Arizona, Illinois, Colorado, Missouri, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina or driving in from neighboring Florida cities. Despite a few inevitable delays, everyone arrived safely and was welcomed with hugs and happy hour drinks.
It’s a surreal feeling to meet someone in person after connecting day after day over online video calls. For months and years most of us met solely through screens! That feeling spread twenty-fold as we all arrived, finally getting to see and talk to each other face to face for the first time. Reactions ranged from “You’re exactly how I pictured you!” to “Whoa, you’re taller than I thought!” with jokes and fist bumps all around. The first-day-of-school jitters were gone in a flash!
After the hotel happy hour, we walked to a nearby restaurant for a wonderful welcome dinner replete with fish tacos, ahi tuna salads, and shrimp and crab nacho plates. When in Florida, right?
With conversations ranging from recent Bravo bombshells to the In-Season NBA tournament to rogue AI, the diversity of experience, interests, and personalities within the WIT team was on full display. Will and Stephi even held court at one end of the table in a rowdy round of trivia questions. We’re a competitive bunch, that’s for sure!
Back at the hotel the night took a fun turn, as the majority of the group found themselves harkening back to middle/high school days with a fierce game of “Mafia.” Nothing quite like getting to know your co-workers by accusing them of murder and subterfuge! Jimmy and Nolan successfully skirted the accusations of the townspeople to survive as the winning Mafia team. Keep an eye on those two!
